About Me
Hi there! My name is Stephanya and I am an artist.
I am originally from California, where I grew up surrounded by and appreciating nature. I had a natural curiosity from a young age which led me to wanting to learn as much as I could about the world around us. So much so, that I graduated from the University of California, Santa Cruz with a degree in environmental studies and earth science. I then went on to earn a masters of earth science, environmental management and sustainability from the University of Amsterdam.
During these years of studying I found my curiosity being satisfied but my dread about the state of the world growing. Faced with this climate anxiety and the abrupt unemployment brought on by the pandemic, I turned to what brought me joy in life- art. I embraced the creativity that I had within me and decided to take a chance on a creative career. And so, here we are! I have found that bringing my scientific background and natural curiosity of how things work to the art space has helped me learn new artistic processes and find my own style.
I’ve enjoyed creating art in a variety of mediums and styles, learning new techniques, and figuring out what kind of art I enjoy making the most. This has been a lifelong pursuit which has given me experience in knitting, crochet, ceramics, drawing, painting, embroidery, cross stitch, sewing, macrame, origami, and photography, to name a few. I find that each medium teaches me something new about the art I want to create and gives me a new perspective that influences how I treat other mediums.
I am currently living in the Netherlands with my partner, where I spend my free time learning Dutch, visiting museums for new inspiration, and trying out new vegan recipes.
